Seagate Hard Drive PCB swapping replacement guide

Swapping the printed circuit board (PCB) on Seagate hard drives requires matching 4 things “EXACTLY” for your best chance of success without having to swap any chips from your old PCB to the new PCB. We recommend matching the full model number (ST9500325AS) and also the Part number (PN) which is normally located right under the model number (9HH134-036). You must also match the drives Firmware (FW) which is normally located right under the Part number (D005DEM1). Last thing that is required for the PCB swap on Seagate drives is matching the PCB label number and letter following the number set. This number set and letter determine the chips that are installed on the PCB. The PCB number on Seagate drives is normally a 9 digit number followed by a letter (100536284 J). It is not a necessity, but if you can also match the Site code you increase your chances of success when doing the PCB swap (SU). The Site code is the country where the drive was manufactured.

If these 4 things are not matched “EXACTLY”, you will be able to get the drive to spin, but you will not be able to get the drive to be recognized to recover your data or use the drive. (See photos for examples).

If this is the case when you install the matching PCB you will need to transfer the 8 pin ROM chip from your original PCB to the matching PCB for the drive to be recognized in the bios to recover your data. These ROM chips are specific for each drive and a simple PCB swap with an exact match is not a guarantee without the ROM transfer.
